Our Journey of Faith and Purpose
Court Courtney and his wife, Margaret Karakas, felt a strong spiritual calling that emerged through sermons, guidance from local pastors, and the influence of other spiritual leaders following the Covid outbreak. Motivated by these promptings, they bravely decided to leave behind the comfort of their
home and businesses in southwest Florida. In December of 2023, the couple sold their property and set out on a new path, answering a mission that called them away from their beloved family, lifelong friends, clients, and colleagues in Naples to the hills of middle Tennessee.
A New Calling in Life
Although Court and Margaret were nearing retirement and contemplating what their future would look like, they felt God instilling within them a renewed sense of purpose. Drawing from their diverse backgrounds, unique talents, and previous involvement in the recovery community, overcomers groups, and third world addiction recovery programs, they recognized a convergence of spiritual gifts and professional experiences. These qualities prepared and qualified them to embrace this new direction. Thus, Adullam was born a second ministry sharing a name with their first but dedicated to a different mission and purpose.
The Significance of Adullam
Adullam is recognized as a city in the Old Testament, notable for its many caves. Of these, one cave holds theological significance: the place where David sought refuge from King Saul, who was determined to take his life. Within the cave of Adullam, David found deep spiritual renewal, guidance, and surrendered his life completely to God's will and promises. This site came to symbolize spiritual refuge, reflection, rest, and renewal. David was joined there by men who were distressed, in debt, and weary under Saul’s oppressive rule. Through his renewed faith and surrender to God, David was empowered to lead a divinely protected and formidable group of followers.
Creating a Modern Refuge
Inspired by David’s story and spiritual journey, Court and Margaret were led to develop a retreat modeled after the blueprint God provided. They established a short-term RV rental community, complemented by guest suites, nestled in the pine forests of Hohenwald, Tennessee. Their vision was to create a refuge—a place of beauty and quiet reflection, where guests could connect with the natural environment while enjoying modern amenities. This immersive experience, often referred to as “forest bathing,” encourages individuals to engage their senses, be present in nature, calm their minds, and deepen their connection both with God and the abundant natural surroundings.
Adullam Today and Future Plans
The first phase of the Adullam project is now complete, featuring seven bespoke, full-service, level, oversized concrete RV sites and two luxury guest suites, each measuring 400 square feet and equipped with king beds, kitchenettes, and private bathrooms. With this milestone achieved, Court and Margaret are planning for future expansion. The next phase will include additional RV sites and cabins spread across the 80 acres of rolling terrain and natural woodland. Guests will have access to several trails for hiking, biking, or ATV excursions, as well as opportunities to explore the property’s three deer feeders, butterfly gardens, fruit trees, bee hives, flowering trees and containers, and hummingbird feeders—all designed to support and enhance the natural habitat.
